Business Round-Up

July 27, 2010

By Mona Fratasci

Local Taoseño Anthony Medina and his sister Diana opened Dante’s in El Prado at the end of June, providing a healthy eating and entertainment experience in a bright, spacious location where fresh organic juices are served from a gourmet professional juicing machine, alongside fruit smoothies, organic espresso, made-to-order sandwiches, panini and wraps that include local ingredients from the Taos farmer’s market. Six eight-foot Brunswick pool tables, several flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi at the indoor or outdoor seating facing Taos Mountain provide a place to enjoy a healthy meal or beverage, improve your billiard skills or just take in the view. Mon.-Thurs. 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Fridays 8 a.m.-10 p.m., Sat. & Sun. 10 a.m.-10 p.m. 1103 Paseo del Pueblo Norte #2 between Taos Pilates Studio and Edward Jones Investments. 575-751-4181.

The Pilar Yacht Club and Café, run by owners Rico Salazar and his wife Eva Behrens, is in full swing now, offering tubing and rafting supplies, river gear, fishing and picnic supplies, books, espresso, ice cream and more. Patio dining and to-go options are available from the café at the building’s historic location just south of town, across from the Rio Grande Gorge Visitor Center. The current building was erected in 1956 after the original building, known as The Log Cabin—which served over the years as a general store, bar, dance hall and post office—burned down. Open seven days, March-October, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. 2884 State Road 68, Pilar. 575-758-9072.

Dixon’s new Zuly’s Café opened the first week of June with an extensive menu featuring hormone- and antibiotic-free beef and natural chicken among the numerous options in its breakfast (until 11:30 a.m.) and lunch offerings. Casual atmosphere with seating inside as well as outside under the big shade trees. Open Tues.-Thurs. 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Fridays 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturdays 9 a.m.-9 p.m. 234 Hwy 75, Dixon. 505-579-4001.

Seco Pearl, a 501(c)(3), is located at 590 Hondo Seco Rd. and has re-opened. The coffee shop offers live music, entertainment and free wifi. Seco Pearl is open from 9a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
