Robert Mirabal completes filming of "Georgia O'Keeffe" for Lifetime Television's production slated to air third-quarter 2009.

The bio-pic—set in the 1920s New York up to 1970s New Mexico—was penned by Pulitzer-Prize winner Michael Cristofer (The Shadow Box) and stars Hollywood heavyweights Joan Allen as Georgia O'Keeffe, Jermy Irons as Alfred Steiglitz, Tyne Daly as Mabel Dodge, and "introducing" Mirabal to the the big screen as her husband, Tony Luhan.

Mirabal lensed his last scene on Wednesday evening at the Vista Clara Ranch in Galisteo where Tony Luhan plays flute and drum and teaches Georgia to dance around the camp fire as Mabel Dodge and friends look on.

The script is written in such a way as to portray Tony as Georgia's New Mexico muse... providing her introduction to the landscape and inspiring her to live an authentic life in the new environment. Mirabal has taken to the role of Luhan with a grace befitting his Taos Pueblo ancestry. "I've learned a lot about Tony in the last couple of weeks talking to people at the Pueblo who knew him. I even used a blanket that actually belonged to him. Tony was like an astronaut of his day. Going where no Pueblo man had gone before." Mirabal even visited Mabel's grave in Kit Carson Park to research the part.

Directed by Bob Balaban, the film is being shot in Santa Fe and environs. Taoseno Jonathan Slator serves as location manager and Arroyo Seco/Hollywood costumer, Michael Dennison, has done a brilliant job with wardrobe. At the conclusion of shooting, Balaban thanked Mirabal for helping bring authenticity to the New Mexico scenes.

Robert Mirabal is pictured as Tony Luhan, playing opposite Tyne Daly as Mabel in the film.

A Film that Bites

TAOS FILM SOCIETY presents LET THE RIGHT ONE IN (“Squeal. Squeal Like a Pig” in Danish.) Friday and Saturday December 5, 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday December 7 - 6 p.m.

“Though not a fan of Vampire flics in general, this reviewer found the Danish treatment of the traditional subject in a modern vein both charming and hopeful. There’s a lesson here: Don’t bully the boy who has a vampire for a friend. The story takes place in modern dress among drab surroundings in a wintry Danish context with a certain dry sense of humor. It’s fun, entertaining, and well-executed though I don’t find it quite as profoundly interesting as the hysterical reviewers below but I am reminded of the modern Nosferatu with Klaus Kinski.” –Chaucer Henderson.

“THIS IS A VAMPIRE MOVIE LIKE NO OTHER. MESMERIZING.” – David Ansen, Newsweek

“A SPECTACULARLY MOVING AND ELEGANT FILM THAT IS, AT THIS POINT, THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR.” – John Anderson, Washington Post

“ONE OF THE YEAR’S VERY BEST MOVIES. A FUNNY, HAUNTING DAZZLER.” – John Powers, Vogue

“DISCRIMINATING HORROR-MOVIE FANS REJOICE – THIS IS THE FINEST HORROR PICTURE IN YEARS. Remarkable, as raw and frightening as it is tender and intelligent.” – Gerald Peary, Boston Phoenix

“A SPECTRALLY BEAUTIFUL VAMPIRE FILM THAT’S MORE THAN THE SUM OF ITS CHILLS AND ESTIMABLE TECHNIQUE. Director Alfredson has an elevated sense of visual beauty, but he knows how to deliver the splattery goods.” Manohla Dargis, NY Times

THE FILM IS TERRIFIC. THIS IS ONE OF THE REAL FINDS OF 2008.” – Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

“AN UNFORGETTABLE, ATMOSPHERIC LOVE STORY FULL OF STUNNING IMAGERY.The kids are nothing short of amazing. THIS IS ONE ORIGINAL THAT CAN’T BE IMPROVED.” – Glenn Whipp, LA Daily News

“VERY FINE AND VERY FRIGHTENING. THIS FILM IS UP THERE WITH THE BLOODSUCKING CLASSICS.” – Steven Rea, Philadelphia Inquirer

“BEST. VAMPIRE MOVIE. EVER.” – Emmett Williams, Washington Examiner

“VAMPIRE LORE RARELY COMES ACROSS AS INSPIRED AND ALIVE AS IT DOES IN THISEXQUISITELY CRAFTED FILM. As far as a Hollywood remake – THERE’S SIMPLY NO ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT WITH THIS ONE.” – Laura Kern, Film Comment

“IT’S A WINNER! The two leads are dynamite and director Alfredson knows how to pin you to your seat. SEE IT NOW BEFORE A HOLLYWOOD REMAKE RUINS IT.” – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

“Just when you thought every ounce of metaphor and meaning had been wrung from the vampire movie, it infuses fresh blood into the genre.” –David Fear, Time Out NY

“EXHILARATING! A RARE SUSPENSEFUL HORROR FILM.” – Wesley Morris, Boston Globe

“A KNOCK OUT – ONE OF THE BEST VAMPIRE MOVIES I HAVE EVER SEEN. This movie is the real deal.” – Gary Cogill, WFAA Dallas

“A DELIGHTFUL MIX OF HIGH AND LOW.” – David Edelstein, New York Magazine

“GORGEOUS AND COMPELLING.”- Carina Chocano, LA Times

‘Twilight’ may get more attention, but this vampire tale is one you won’t want to overlook.” – Elizabeth Weitzman, NY Daily News

“IT’S HARD TO SEE HOW A DIFFERENT PRODUCTION TEAM COULD IMPROVE UPON THESE RESULTS.” – Reyhan Harmanci, SF Chronicle

“A BEAUTIFUL BROODING VAMPIRE TALE.” – Lisa Kennedy, Denver Post

“MAYBE ONE OF THE BEST VAMPIRE STORIES PUT TO FILM SINCE MURNAU’S ‘NOSFERATU’. There hasn’t been an American genre film this good in quite some time.” – Paul Constant, The Stranger

“ONE OF THE GREAT HORROR FILMS OF RECENT YEARS. The quiet drama and muted score unsettle the viewer’s mind much as Kubrick did in ‘The Shining’.” –Mike Russell, The Oregonian

“ONE OF THE MOST WELCOME SURPRISES OF THE YEAR. Director Alfredson
breathes so much life into the stagnant genre that it’s impossible to pigeonhole the film as horror.” – Ap Kryza, Willamette Week

"As delicate, haunting and poetic a film as you're ever bound to see. A chilling fairy tale," - Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Devil's Backbone)

“A CHILLER IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. Authentically moving and scary.” –
Michael Sragow, Baltimore Sun

“Seeing this film will become a Valentine’s Day tradition for Goth couples.” – Jessica Novak, Baltimore Examiner

“BOTH HAUNTING AND HAUNTED, FAR ABOVE THE CLICHES OF HORROR TALES.” – Geoff Berkshire, Metromix

“IT’S A BEAUTIFUL HORROR FILM, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, A BEAUTIFUL FILM. Summing it up as a tween vampire romance does zero justice to the magnificent emotional resonance of this gemlike bloodstone of a film.” –Marc Salov, Austin Chronicle

“IT’S MUCH MORE THAN A HORROR MOVIE.” – Charles Ealy, Austin American-Statesman

“ AMONG THE BEST OF THE YEAR AND ONE OF THE MOST ORIGINAL AND HAUNTING VAMPIRE FILMS EVER MADE.” – Mike Clark, Gwinnett Daily Post

“IT’S HARD TO IMAGINE THAT ‘TWILIGHT’ WILL BE BETTER THAN THIS TERRIFIC VAMPIRE FILM.” – Anders Wright, San Diego City Beat

“A GENRE MASTERPIECE. Absolutely one of the most brilliant narratives I’ve had the pleasure to watch in the last decade. Intensely emotional, the film works on just so many levels.” – Joseph B. Mauceri, Fears Magazine

“Possibly one of the best vampire movies of the last 20 years.” – Edward Douglas, Shock Till You Drop.com

“QUITE EASILY THE MOST COMPELLING NEW ENTRY IN VAMPIRE MYTHOS IN AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER.” – Todd Brown, Twitch.com

“ONE OF THE STANDOUT ORIGINALS OF 2008. Easily the most strikingly unusual vampire pic that anyone’s seen in I don’t know how long.” – Jeffrey Wells, Hollywood Elsewhere

“Vampire films don’t get more soulful than ‘Let the Right One In’.” –Karen Durbin, Elle “A CLASSIC-IN-THE-MAKING THAT WILL BE TALKED ABOUT FOR YEARS TO COME. A sensationally compelling genre-bending chiller.” – KJ Doughton, Film Threat

“A BRILLIANT FILM.” – Luke Y. Thompson, LA Weekly

“SENSATIONAL! Director Alfredson does a great job of sinking new fangs into familiar vampire elements. The horror elements kick ass.” – Dennis Dermody, Paper
